Pioneer Park

This is a must see destination. It is literally minutes from the campus of Utah Tech University. It’s close, it’s free and it’s beautiful. You can climb to the top and look over the city. This is especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset. What’s more it’s not so hot at those times of day. There is an old pioneer cabin called Boy Scout Cave. There are numerous trails to follow. You can climb on rocks and hike through narrow canyons. There is also a small arch nearby too. Picnic facilities and bathrooms are available.

Snow Canyon State Park

Located just 15 minutes from St. George this beautiful State Park offers lots of fun activities. There are fascinating lava tubes to explore, sand dunes to play in, hiking trails everywhere. You can bike, go horseback riding, rock climbing,  camp and explore. Some of the most loved trails in the area are located in Snow Canyon State Park. Johnson’s Canyon, Whiptail Trail, Petrified Dunes Trail and Lava Flow Overlook Trail are just a few. Don’t forget to dress for the weather and always take plenty of water.

Located just about 14 miles from St. George. This easy 1 mile trail takes you to a sandstone boulders covered with interesting ancient petroglyphs. Get out of town to see this interesting site.

Falls Park (Sheep Bridge)

A little farther away but worth the trip. This is a popular swimming and tubing area on the Virgin River. There is about a 1 mile stretch of river with sandy beaches, tubing rapids and even some jump off rocks. Be sure to check the water depth and river conditions before jumping in. A popular local place to cool down from the warm southern Utah weather.
